Events for seniors in planning stages

The Southern Illinois District Older Adult Advisory Committee assists congregations with their ministry to “Golden Years” members over age 55. This committee consists of volunteers who meet to plan district activities as well as develop ideas for congregations’ services to their older members.

In the past, the committee has planned and conducted one-day bus trips for seniors to Lutheran historical sites like the Saxon Memorial and Lutheran Heritage Center and Museum in Altenburg, Mo. Another group toured Concordia Publishing House and Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. A Comparative Faith Encounter trip visited a Greek Orthodox church in addition to a Jewish temple and an Islamic mosque. The Lincoln museum and library in Springfield, Ill. was another destination.

Future events and trips are in the planning stage. The committee has also planned one-day workshops at Camp Wartburg. Usually a well known speaker is brought in to discuss a topic that is relevant to seniors, and a social or servant event is held.

At district conventions and LWML conventions, you will find a booth with resources for seniors, sponsored by the Older Adult Advisory Committee. This committee meets quarterly. Members of this committee and their home congregations are:
